The Last of Us season 2 is imminent. When, exactly, is still a little hazy, but HBO’s dramatic adaptation of the video game of the same name is expected to return in the first half of 2025.
A just-released glimpse of the forthcoming season in a 2025 Max sizzle reel indicates that not much has changed for Joel and Ellie, our weathered heroes, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, respectively. The zombies are still raging, strangers are still conspiring (hello, Catherine O’Hara), and Joel is still wearing his Flint and Tinder waxed trucker jacket, presumably because even SSENSE has shuttered in the wake of a fungal pandemic.
We clocked Joel’s go-to jacket throughout season one of the show (along with no shortage of covetable menswear), but few of his stylistic choices piqued our interests as much as his rugged trucker. Which makes a heckuva lot of sense: Flint and Tinder’s jacket isn’t one of Huckberry’s most popular items—it is Huckberry’s most popular item. Joel’s particular version is cut from a hardy 7 oz. sailcloth cotton and equipped with a cozy flannel lining, and it’s long been one of GQ’s favorites. (And one of yours, too.)
Will it keep you protected from the undead? Probably not. But short of an actual apocalypse, we can’t think of a cold-weather scenario where it won’t come in handy, on its own with a beefy cable-knit and some new-age selvedge, or layered underneath a snazzy topcoat and fuzzy fleece pants on a blustery January morning.
In the foreboding 10-second teaser, Joel trades suspicious glances with Ellie, who may or may not be aware of his misdeeds at the end of season one. Anyone who’s played video games can probably guess what to expect next, but how this jacket factors into The Last of Us season 2 action is still a mystery. Until then, stock up while inventory lasts and enjoy cosplaying as your favorite zombie-fighting zaddy.
