Pete Davidson Is Dressing Like an Adult Now

Pete Davidson has spent his last few years dabbling in minimalism—which is to say, he’s been lasering off his vast collection of chaotic tattoos while also (slightly) paring down his unabashedly outlandish wardrobe. (One presumes that one of these processes was more physically painful than the other.) The more ink he sheds, the more tranquil his outfits become.

On Sunday, the comedian and his new girlfriend, the model Elsie Hewitt, attended a New York Knicks game against the Phoenix Suns at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden. For a man whom we’ve come to know for his custom Ugg boots and Transformers velour tracksuits, Davidson’s outfit was uncharacteristically simple: a boxy, ’90s-style Schott leather jacket layered over a “Knicks Essentials” hoodie from the team’s collaboration with Fear of God, plus vintage Levi’s blue jeans and Dr. Martens Chelsea boots. (Hewitt, who wore a very Pete Davidson-esque letterman jacket embroidered with the logo for HBO’s The Sopranos, had her own pair of Docs to match.)

“I’m trying to be an adult,” Davidson recently told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. He was referring to his tattoo-removal process, but the same sentiment applies to the 31-year-old’s increasingly grown-up wardrobe. Who’s to say if he’s still got a pair or two of those orthopedic Velcro sneakers kicking around, but even those could be elevated by a tasteful leather jacket and some not-baggy blue jeans.
