Last October, construction wrapped up in Tampa Bay, Florida, on ten new buildings by Elkus Manfredi, COOKFOX, KPF, Morris Adjmi, and others at Water Street Tampa—a $3 billion, 56-acre project to transform the area surrounding Amelie Arena into a thriving mixed-use neighborhood.
This week, Gensler and KPF released renderings of the next phase at Water Street Tampa which stands to bring three more office and residential buildings to the development.
Renderings show distinct towers with balconies on each level that curve and reach upwards into the sky, replete with foliage at certain points. The residential buildings by Gensler have white facades, and the office building by KPF is red. The developers, SPP, are branding Water Street Tampa as a state-of-the-art wellness “nabe,” short for neighborhood.
Gensler is currently designing a condominium tower that, upon completion, will be Water Street Tampa’s tallest building. Meanwhile, KPF is envisioning a build-to-suit office complex for the site, as well as a dynamic mixed-use entertainment center.
The residential towers and office building will be sited on an extension of Water Street that’s currently under construction north of the 900 and 1000 Blocks of East Cumberland Avenue. The mixed-use entertainment destination between South Morgan Street and South Jefferson Street will have a new select service hotel, event parking garage, and variety of entertainment-oriented usages.
Previously, KPF completed a tower called Thousand & One at Water Street Tampa, which their new office tower will augment with even more space for corporations to move into the area. The residential buildings by Gensler will add even more rental options to the area which is currently home to towers called Asher, Cora, and Heron.
The road and utility infrastructure work for the Water Street extension has already begun, and is expected for completion in spring 2025. This extension will allow for greater vehicular and pedestrian connectivity between downtown Tampa and Ybor City to the north. Plans are also in the works for more green space on Water Street where open-air markets, outdoor concerts, and other activities can take place.
