Brian Austin Green doesn’t have the best memories of his relationship with Vanessa Marcil.
“Relationships have been interesting for me,” Green, 50, shared on the Monday, May 5, episode of his “Old-ish” podcast. “I had some major missteps … The relationship that I had with Vanessa was very toxic in that way. It wasn’t a loving, caring relationship.”
Green and Marcil, 56, met on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210 when she joined the show during season 9 in 1998.
While the twosome dated for several years and welcomed son Kassius in March 2002, they later found themselves involved in a lengthy custody and legal battle.
“With my mom, everything was about me,” Green shared with his cohosts Randy Spelling and Sharna Burgess when looking back on the most important relationships in his life. “And with Vanessa, it wasn’t that at all. … After two years, you’re kind of looking at yourself in the mirror, asking, ‘Who am I at this point? There’s not one piece of me that’s left. My relationship with everyone around me has changed.’ That relationship ended up not working out.”

Marcil previously alleged that she raised their son Kassius “alone.” Green denied the claims and said it was “frustrating” to read “continued lies from a 50+-year-old woman.”
Green went on to find love with Megan Fox after meeting on the set of Hope & Faith in 2004. They were married from 2010 to 2021 and share three sons: Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8.

“Megan was a breath of fresh air coming out of what felt like Vietnam,” Green shared during the podcast. (Us Weekly has reached out to Marcil’s team for comment on Green’s latest podcast.)
While Spelling, 46, acknowledged Green’s negative experience with Marcil, he also reminded his cohost that welcoming a child with the Las Vegas actress was a bright spot in that chapter of his life.
“He was by far the first time In my life where I stepped outside of myself,” Green shared after becoming a father to Kassius. “My insecurities and my things didn’t carry the same weight that they did before because he was just my world. I wanted him with me every second of every day. We had our routines. We had our things.”
Today, Green is happily engaged to Burgess, 39, and the couple share a 2-year-old son named Zane. (Fox moved on with Machine Gun Kelly and welcomed a baby girl in March.)
If you ask Green, becoming a parent absolutely changed his life for the better.
“I absolutely loved being a parent,” he said. “I think that was the first time in my life where I really felt like this is what I’m supposed to be doing.”
